Major changes
- User interface facelift based on Ribbon interface. The new interface simplifies application usage and make most tasks easier and more intuitive.
- Application authentication system was replaced by Windows own authentication system. Now only Administrators can configure the application and normal users can use it. Sensitive options are restricted only to Administrators, like database reset.
- Removed the network installation option due to security implications and installation and maintenance complexity. From now in order to use the application from other computers you need to user Remote Desktop to connect to the application. Windows does let you create a link on the remote computer that directly starts the application on the server using Remote Desktop.
- Now the application data including database is no longer stored in Program Files and uses recommended location for common application data (%ALLUSERSPROFILE% environment variable, usually mapping to C:\ProgramData\ on Windows 7.)
- 2.x application is using a different directory than version 1.x so you can install them both.
- The new version is able to run in portable mode, meaning to be able to run the application from a remote drive without requiring installation. This feature ease the implementation for our partners. The application will look for data files in current directory and use them, if they are not present it will look for them in default location on common application data directory.
New features
- Monitor multiple pbx units in the same database.
- Full Unicode support, this means that application can be localized in any language now.
- Simplified licensing and significant license cost reductions
- PbxMon is communication with PhoneJournal using HTTP requests. This enables you to install it on other remote computers. This replaces the old communication channel that was using Windows messages or file shares.
Removed features
- Minimum OS required is now Windows XP SP2
- External phonebook is no longer supported (Pagini Aurii). In the future this feature will be replaces by an online service.
- It is no longer possible to choose a different installation directory, application will install in the default location as recommended by OS specification. This will lower the number of support requests.
